Design Challenge
Content creators are seeking monetization strategies beyond brand endorsements. Our project targets content creators, aiming to increase their earnings and fan engagement through a NFT-based platform. The idea is: fans buy "creator coins," which are NFTs, from creators. These coins give them certain rights such as voting in future content ideas and sending direct messages.
Design Process
I used the Agile methodology, engaging one-week sprints. Each sprint cycle involved building a prototype, showing it to our stakeholders- our classmates, and iterating the next week.
Lean Design Principles
I adhered to lean design principles, focusing on developing minimum viable prototypes (MVPs) for quick iteration and stakeholder feedback. This allowed us to efficiently allocate energy to find the most viable solution, before investing more time and resources into the prototype.
User Research
We initiated our project by interviewing our classmates, other Gen Z college students, to discover their insights on the content creation economy.
User Personas
Then I along with the team created user personas. Presenting these to our stakeholders, we sought their perspective on which personas seem most relatable.
Feedback highlighted Emma and Rakeem as key personas to focus on designing with
Moodboard of the kind of creators and aesthetic who will frequent our platform
Competitive Analysis
Our analysis of current platforms that have creator compensation options like Twitch and Patreon revealed a gap in their integration of web3, thereby losing out on potential revenue streams.
User Stories
Focusing on the Emma and Rakeem personas, I outlined scenarios detailing their frustrations.
Business Model:
I explored the range of options to turn this into a viable business model
Creator Coin Mechanism
I devised a voting mechanism where fans buy creator coins for a stronger influence on the creator's content decisions. Creators then poll their audience on future content directions, and the highest-voted option gets produced. As the platform, Stella, grows, I plan to expand the functionalities of social creator coins.
Product
What strategy should I employ to create this product efficiently and effectively?
Wireframes
I created low-fidelity wireframes to conceptualize the platform's evolution with a creator coin mechanism, focusing on an iOS app to outline user interaction and flow. These wireframes highlight how the NFT social tokens and a creator gallery would be presented to users exploring the platform.
User Feedback
I conducted surveys with our stakeholders to evaluate the interface's accessibility. Here is the feedback received.
Feedback Takeaways
Clarify platform terminology
Streamline the interface for purchasing creator coins and participating in content decision-making.
Ensure the gallery or profile interface intuitively displays supported creators and is approachable, resembling familiar social media feeds.
Consider incorporating a public sharing feature where purchases, such as NFTs, can be displayed or posted to other social media to extend interaction and visibility.
Visual Value Proposition
Stakeholder feedback affirmed our interface direction, prompting us to create concise single-slide visual value propositions in Figma to refine our product's aesthetic and market positioning.
After reviewing our visual value propositions with stakeholders, they favored one that clearly showcased the app's functionality and iOS compatibility. We adopted their choice, opting for a darker theme to align with the aesthetic of the Web3 movement.
Design System
Leveraging our research and design thinking process, I developed a bespoke design system in Figma, anchored by the modern typefaces of Epilogue and Open Sans to complement our application's style. Additionally, I chose purple as the primary color—a personal touch that received my team's support.
Results
This project earned an A and special praise for its innovative foray into the burgeoning Web3 space.
Reflection
Reflecting on the development of Stella, U embraced a minimalist approach, ensuring it's both user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing with a cosmic-inspired color scheme and clear Open Sans font. Focused on enriching the creator's experience, I streamlined navigation and fostered engagement through intuitive interactions and meaningful notifications. Looking forward, I'm eager to see Stella's creator coin concept become a catalyst for innovation within the future of content creation.
